Two series of acrylic paintings that have been etched using a laser cut machine.
1. The low polygonal designs have been generated procedurally using a custom shading algorithm that renders each face with a number of lines based on a simple lighting model, taking in consideration camera visibility and self occlusion for clarity.
2. The process for the second series went from the physical acrylic painting, into digital image that informed the generation of the pattern that was eventually printed back on the wooden panel. The patterns been generated through simulation or emergence, where each behavior was affected by the color of the painting itself.
To minimize the operation time of the laser cutter, a custom algorithm optimized the drawing instructions by finding the shortest path to trace each line drawing. All designs were exported as pdf vector files using python.
